Parish Re-Opening Brings Joy to Faithful in Katsina Diocese Kafur, Katsina State

The Catholic Diocese of Katsina today witnessed a moment of renewal and celebration as St. Jerome Catholic Church, Gidan Yawa in Kafur Local Government, was officially re-opened with a solemn Mass and warm welcome for its newly appointed parish priest, Rev. Fr. John Izuala.
Fr. Izuala, who recently completed his studies at the Catholic Institute of West Africa (CIWA), Port Harcourt, has returned to the diocese to take up pastoral leadership at St. Jerome Parish. His appointment was made by the diocesan bishop, Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Mamman Musa, bringing relief and excitement to the faithful who had long awaited a resident priest.
The Mass was celebrated by the Dean of Malumfashi Deanery - Very Rev Fr. Pius Duniya Asheji, under which the parish falls. In his homily, the Dean expressed gratitude to God for the gift of priesthood and emphasized the importance of pastoral presence in strengthening the faith of local communities. Following the liturgy, he blessed the parish house to facilitate Fr. Izuala’s swift settlement into his new role.
An estimated twelve priests from across the three deaneries of the diocese were present (Katsina, Malunfashi and Funtua deneries), underscoring the significance of the occasion. Their collective presence symbolized unity and support for the new parish priest as he begins his ministry.
The re-opening drew a large crowd of parishioners, who gathered with joy and anticipation. Many expressed their delight at finally having a priest assigned to their parish, describing the moment as a new chapter of spiritual growth and community life.
With Fr. Izuala now at the helm, St. Jerome Catholic Church is set to embark on a renewed journey of faith, guided by pastoral leadership and strengthened by the support of the wider diocesan family.
