About the Centre
The Catechetical Centre of the Catholic Diocese of Katsina forms missionary disciples through sound doctrine, pastoral accompaniment, and practical tools for parish life.

We collaborate with parishes, schools, families, and movements to plan catechetical paths for children, youth, and adults. Our mandate includes catechist formation, curriculum support, sacramental preparation, RCIA, and digital evangelization resources so that the light of Christ reaches every home, classroom, and online space.

Pastoral Priorities

Programs & Ministries
🏫 Overview of the Centre
Founded in 1964 by Bishop Edward T. Lawton, O.P. Originally a diocesan institute, now welcomes candidates from other dioceses. Celebrated 50 years of service in 2014. Offers training in English and Hausa, making it accessible to a wide range of students. Residential with a boarding system and farm, emphasizing practical preparation.
📋 Admission Requirements. To be considered for admission, candidates must:
Be baptized and active communicants. Have completed Senior Secondary School with at least 5 credits including English. Be proficient in English (speaking, reading, writing). Receive a recommendation from a parish priest or religious superior. Be financially responsible for their fees. Pass a screening interview
🧳 Interview Essentials
Academic certificates. Baptism card/testimonial. Recommendation letter with parish stamp. Spousal permission (if married), with photo and signature. Two passport-size photos. Writing materials
📚 Course Structure
Duration: Two years, split into four semesters (14 weeks each). Academic Year: February to December, with a long vacation from June to September.
Catechist Training
Workshops, mentorship, and certification with diocesan standards.
📖 Subjects Offered. Students study a wide range of topics, including:
English, Communication, Scripture, Theology, Catechism Church History, Pastoral Ministry, Sacramental Law, Canon Law RCIA, Liturgy, Homiletics, Bible Course Traditional Religion, Bookkeeping & Computer, Pastoral Care, Ecumenism
🎓 Graduation & Certification
Graduates receive a Diploma with distinctions, merits, or credits based on performance.
👥 Staff & Services
Lecturers include clergy, religious, and lay faithful.Offers training and services to catechists, Church leaders, and pious societies like CWO, CYON, Choir, etc.Services are available both within and outside the Centre.
Catechist Formation & Certification
Our multi-level track equips new and experienced catechists with doctrine, pedagogy, and pastoral skills
Level I (Foundations)
Credo basics, liturgy, prayer, and classroom skills.
Level II (Intermediate)
Scripture, moral theology, pedagogy, and methodology.
Level III (Advanced)
Apologetics, pastoral practice, and specialization tracks.
Rules & Regulations for Students
These guidelines are designed to foster discipline, spiritual growth, and communal harmony among students
🙏 Spiritual & Personal Conduct
Must be a Catholic with a passion for evangelization and Church service. Expected to be prayerful, attend Mass regularly, and engage in community movements. Responsible for your spiritual and academic growth—no slacking!
🧼 Discipline & Cleanliness
Respect authority, obey rules, and maintain honesty. Keep your room and surroundings clean. Participate in general labour every Saturday—no excuses!
🚫 Restrictions & Permissions
No leaving the premises without permission from the Director or Assistant. Avoid unnecessary outings and unapproved food items. No electrical gadgets, musical instruments, drugs, or reading materials without permission. Visitors allowed only on weekends, and they must be well-behaved and properly dressed.
📦 Responsibility
You are accountable for your personal belongings and the Centre’s property. Any damage? You pay for it. If you fall ill, report immediately to the Director or Assistant
