FOURTH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR 'A' IN ORDINARY TIME
The mass began at 6:15 am with an entrance by the Priest, Rev. Fr Chibuzor Victor Somadina, the Catechist, Lay readers and the alter servers. The Priest began the mass with an opening prayer. The first reading was taken from the book of Zephaniah. The Responsorial Psalm taken from the book of Psalms "Come Lord and save us". The Second reading was from the letter of St Paul to the Corinthians. The Gospel reading was taken from the Gospel of Matthew which centred on the Beatitudes. The homily reflected on the Beatitudes. He said Jesus used the Beatitudes to show us that we can recognize our humbleness in God, saying when we live according to the Beatitudes, then we'll be fulfilled. Speaking, Fr. Victor encouraged all to "seek first the kingdom of God and every other thing will be added unto you ". He cited an example with Pope John Paul the second, Mahatma Gandhi who lived a life of humility. He mentioned the Beatitudes are not just blessings but ways of life which are also road maps to happiness and encourages all to pick the "Beatitudes as attitudes". Fr Victor also mentioned the most perfect role model of the Beatitudes is our Lord Jesus Christ to be poor in spirit. He called on all to embrace the life of Jesus by embracing the Beatitudes, live as role models just as Christ admonished us to be shining light to the world. He ended the homily with a prayer that God gives us the grace to be humble and poor in spirit just like Christ Jesus. The mass continued with the prayer of the faithful and offertory. The presentation of bread and wine was done by Mr and Mrs Nicholas Isah. The consecration, exchange of the sign of peace, the reception of the Holy Communion and the parish announcements followed. The Parishioners welcomed the Priest Rev. Fr. Chibuzor Victor Somadina with a welcome song and appreciated him for coming to celebrate the mass with them. The Priest thanked the parishioners of St. Theresa's Parish for their prayers and also thanked them for their support and prayed God grants their heart desires. He encouraged them to cooperate with the newly instituted communication team so as to be able to join in the media space as the world is now in the digital age. The mass ended with the final blessings from the priest at 8:20 am.
