Faith Ignited: 134 Confirmed at Gidan Mai Kambu in Katsina Diocese
Joy overflowed at St. Patrick’s Parish, Gidan Mai Kambu, Malumfashi Deanery, on Sunday as 134 candidates received the Sacrament of Confirmation in a vibrant celebration of faith and unity. The event, which coincided with the first pastoral visit of Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Mamman Musa to the parish since the creation of the Catholic Diocese of Katsina, marked a spiritual milestone for the community. The Eucharistic celebration was the centerpiece of the day, with the candidates — young men and women dressed in white — stepping forward to be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit. Their Confirmation was the result of months of catechetical preparation and spiritual formation, guided by parish catechists and the leadership of the Parish Priest, Very Rev. Fr. Pius Duniya, MSP. In his homily, Bishop Musa emphasized the importance of faith, perseverance, and service, drawing from the Book of Habakkuk and the Gospel reading. He reminded the congregation that “faith and prayer are the keys to overcoming fear and uncertainty,” and encouraged the newly confirmed to live as bold witnesses of Christ in their families and communities. Following the liturgy, parish groups — Zumunta Mata, Zumunci Maza, and the Youth Association — performed traditional songs and dances in honor of the candidates. Outstations under the parish, including St. Luke Gidan Mai Unguwa, St. John Danja, St. Paul, and St. Mark Gidan Hadari, presented gifts to celebrate the occasion. The Bishop also blessed the newly renovated primary school within the parish compound, urging parishioners to maintain the facility and continue investing in education as a tool for transformation and hope. Speaking after the Mass, Very Rev. Fr. Pius Duniya shared his reflections: “Today is a testimony to the strength of our youth and the grace of God. These 134 candidates have shown dedication and maturity in their journey toward Confirmation. It’s a proud moment for our parish.” Two of the newly confirmed, Esther and Patrick, expressed their joy. “I feel renewed,” said Esther, 20 years. “The Confirmation has made me more confident in my faith.” Patrick, 22 years, added, “I want to be more active in church and help others grow spiritually. This day will stay with me forever.” The celebration was not just a religious rite — it was a communal affirmation of faith, unity, and the promise of a brighter future led by a new generation of committed Catholics.
