The Catholic Diocese of Katsina has successfully concluded its annual Seminarians’ Reunion, held from 31 August to 2 September 2026 at the Pastoral Centre and the Catechetical Training Centre, Malumfashi.

The three day gathering brought together seminarians of the Diocese for a period of prayer, fellowship, reflection, intellectual formation, and vocational renewal. The programme was designed to strengthen their commitment to the call to priestly vocation and provide an avenue for meaningful interaction and formation.

Seminarians Receive Vocational Guidance

The reunion commenced on 31 August with welcoming remarks and preliminary sessions aimed at fostering fellowship and strengthening bonds among the seminarians.

Throughout the gathering, the seminarians benefited from the guidance of the Diocesan Vocations Director, Rev. Fr. Nura Emmanuel Samaila, who offered counsel and encouragement on remaining faithful to their vocation while navigating the various challenges associated with priestly formation.

His guidance emphasised the importance of perseverance, discipline, prayer, and continued openness to formation throughout the vocational journey.

Conference on Human Sexuality in the Digital Age

One of the major sessions of the reunion featured a conference titled “Human Sexuality in the Age of Digital Culture,” delivered by Rev. Fr. Gabriel Saleh, Director of the Catechetical Training Centre.

The conference addressed contemporary issues affecting young men in formation, particularly the influence of digital platforms and culture on human and moral development.

The session also emphasised the importance of cultivating authentic human relationships and making responsible choices in accordance with Christian values and the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Bishop Gerald Musa Engages Seminarians

A major highlight of the reunion was an interactive session with the Catholic Bishop of Katsina, Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Mamman Musa.

During the encounter, Bishop Musa listened attentively to the seminarians and engaged them in meaningful dialogue on matters relating to their formation, vocation, and personal experiences.

The Bishop also offered spiritual guidance and encouragement, urging the young men to remain committed to their journey towards priestly formation and to approach their vocation with faith, discipline, and openness to God's will.

His paternal presence and interaction with the seminarians provided a source of encouragement and inspiration as they continue their vocational journey.

Apostolic Break and Resumption

The reunion concluded on 2 September 2026, coinciding with the commencement of the seminarians’ apostolic break and holiday period.

Prior to the break, the seminarians had completed their respective apostolic work assignments, providing them with practical pastoral experiences alongside their academic and spiritual formation.

The seminary is scheduled to resume on 2 October 2026, marking the beginning of the new academic session.

Renewed Commitment to Priestly Vocation

The annual reunion provided the seminarians with an opportunity to reflect on their vocation, strengthen their fraternal bonds, and receive guidance for the next phase of their formation.

The gathering was described by the seminarians as a formative and reaffirming experience that equipped them with renewed zeal, encouragement, and clarity of purpose as they continue their journey towards the Catholic priesthood.
