80TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION OF SR. MARY PATRICK DIMLONG (OLF)

Most Rev. Dr. Hilary Nanman Dachelem, CMF, the Catholic Bishop of Bauchi Diocese, joined the faithful at a solemn Holy Mass marking the 80th birthday of Sr. Mary Patrick Dimlong OLF.
The Eucharistic celebration was graced by eminent dignitaries of the Church, including the Bishop of Katsina Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Musa, and John Cardinal Onaiyekan, who served as the Chief Celebrant. He was assisted at the altar by the two bishops, alongside priests, a monsignor, and seminarians.
The readings were taken from the liturgy of the day, setting a reflective tone for the celebration. In his homily, the monsignor extolled the virtues of Sr. Dimlong, congratulating her on attaining the milestone age of 80. He highlighted her immense contributions to the Church and her congregation, particularly noting her pioneering role as the first Superior. He encouraged her to remain steadfast in faith and strong in spirit as she continues her journey.
The liturgy progressed with the celebration of the Eucharist, followed by a thanksgiving session in honour of the celebrant. Sr. Dimlong was joyfully accompanied to the altar by members of her congregation, former students, and numerous well-wishers. The Mass concluded with words of appreciation from the Chief Celebrant.
A group photograph session immediately followed the liturgical celebration, after which guests proceeded to the reception venue for the second phase of the event. The Master of Ceremonies formally welcomed dignitaries and acknowledged the presence of guests, setting the stage for a series of goodwill messages.
Delivering one of the goodwill messages, Bishop Dachelem paid glowing tribute to Sr. Dimlong, recounting her instrumental role in facilitating his admission into the seminary. He described her as a disciplined and exemplary woman whose life remains a model worthy of emulation.
Other speakers also shared personal testimonies, highlighting the profound impact Sr. Dimlong has had on their lives and vocations. The celebration continued with the cutting of the birthday cake, presentation of gifts by groups of her former students, and a colourful cultural performance by the Pankshin cultural dance group, which added vibrancy to the occasion.
In her response, Sr. Dimlong expressed deep gratitude and surprise at the outpouring of love and honour shown to her. She thanked the bishops, priests, religious, former students, and all present for their support over the years, invoking God’s abundant blessings upon them.
The event came to a close with a final prayer and blessing imparted by Bishop Dachelem, bringing to an end a memorable celebration of a life dedicated to service, faith, and the growth of the Church.
