CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF KATSINA-ALA JOINS GLOBAL “ONE MILLION CHILDREN PRAYING THE ROSARY” CAMPAIGN

CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF KATSINA-ALA JOINS GLOBAL “ONE MILLION CHILDREN PRAYING THE ROSARY” CAMPAIGN

The Catholic Diocese of Katsina-Ala joined millions of children across the world in the global “One Million Children Praying the Rosary” campaign on Wednesday, 7 October 2026, marking the Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary with a collective expression of faith, Marian devotion and prayer for peace and unity throughout the world.

The initiative brought children and their communities together in various parishes across the Diocese to pray the Holy Rosary, entrusting the Church, their families, their communities and the entire world to the maternal intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Coordinated within the Diocese by the Holy Childhood Association, the campaign reflected the Church’s commitment to nurturing the spiritual lives of children and helping them recognise their place in the Church’s universal mission of evangelisation.

Children Unite in Prayer for Peace and Unity

Across the Diocese, children gathered in significant numbers to participate in the prayer initiative, joining their voices and hearts with those of children from different countries who took part in the worldwide campaign.

Through the recitation of the Rosary, the young participants prayed for peace among nations, unity within communities, an end to violence and conflict, and renewed love and understanding among peoples of different backgrounds.

Their participation served as a reminder that children are not merely recipients of the Church’s pastoral care; they are also active members of the Christian community whose prayers, faith and witness contribute to the spiritual life of the Church.

By taking part in the campaign, the children demonstrated that prayer remains a powerful expression of Christian solidarity and that even the youngest members of the Church can participate meaningfully in interceding for the needs of humanity.

Holy Childhood Association Promotes Missionary Spirit Among Children

The diocesan observance was coordinated by the Holy Childhood Association, an organisation dedicated to fostering the faith of children and encouraging them to develop a missionary spirit from an early age.

Through initiatives such as the Rosary campaign, the Association helps children grow in their knowledge of the faith, deepen their relationship with God and appreciate their responsibility to pray for and support other children around the world.

The campaign also provided an opportunity to strengthen Marian devotion among the young faithful, introducing them more deeply to the significance of the Rosary as a prayer centred on the mysteries of the life of Jesus Christ, contemplated with the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The gathering further highlighted the importance of parents, catechists, priests, religious and other pastoral workers in guiding children towards a living faith rooted in prayer, charity and concern for others.

A Global Communion of Prayer with the Holy Father

In participating in the campaign, the children of the Catholic Diocese of Katsina-Ala joined a wider international movement of prayer, uniting themselves spiritually with His Holiness Pope Leo XIV and children from different parts of the world.

Their prayers entrusted the universal Church and the world to the maternal care of Mary, with particular emphasis on peace and unity at a time when many communities continue to experience conflict, insecurity and other challenges.

The campaign reaffirmed the importance of raising a generation of young Christians who understand the value of prayer, respect for human dignity, peaceful coexistence and solidarity with those who suffer.

It also offered a visible expression of the Church’s conviction that peace begins with hearts formed by faith, strengthened by prayer and guided by the values of the Gospel.

Celebrations Across the Diocese

Photographs from the diocesan observance captured moments of prayer and participation at several locations, including St. Anthony of Padua Parish, Zaki-Biam; St. Gerard Majella Cathedral, Katsina-Ala; and St. Michael Parish, Gbeji, among other communities across the Diocese.

The celebrations reflected the enthusiasm of the children and the commitment of their respective parish communities to supporting the spiritual formation of young Catholics.

As the children gathered to pray the Rosary, the observance became a shared expression of faith that extended beyond individual parishes, connecting the local Church in Katsina-Ala with the wider Catholic community across the world.

A Call to Continue Praying for Peace

The “One Million Children Praying the Rosary” campaign served as a reminder that the formation of children in the faith must include not only instruction in Christian teachings but also practical participation in the life of prayer and the mission of the Church.

Through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the children joined millions of others in asking God to grant peace to troubled nations, unity to divided communities and hope to all who experience suffering.

The Catholic Diocese of Katsina-Ala’s participation in the initiative reaffirmed the value of Marian devotion and the importance of encouraging children to become prayerful, compassionate and missionary-minded members of the Church.

May the seeds of faith planted through this collective act of prayer continue to grow in the hearts of the children, inspiring them to become witnesses of Christ’s love and instruments of peace in their families, communities and the wider world.

Our Lady, Queen of Peace, pray for us!
