AD MULTOS ANNOS! ARCHBISHOP MATTHEW MAN-OSO NDAGOSO MARKS 40 YEARS OF PRIESTLY MINISTRY

The Catholic Diocese of Osogbo has extended warm congratulations to His Grace, Most Rev. Dr. Matthew Man-Oso Ndagoso, Archbishop of Kaduna and President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), as he celebrates the 40th anniversary of his Priestly Ordination, marking four decades of service to God and His people.

The milestone offers an opportunity to give thanks to God for the gift of Archbishop Ndagoso’s vocation and to reflect on the significance of the priesthood as a ministry of service, sacrifice, pastoral commitment and faithful proclamation of the Gospel.

Ordained to the Sacred Priesthood on 4 October 1986, Archbishop Ndagoso has reached the remarkable milestone of 40 years in the Lord’s vineyard. His ordination took place at the then new St. Theresa’s Catholic Cathedral, Yola, where he received the Sacrament of Holy Orders through the laying on of hands and the prayer of consecration by the late Most Rev. Dr. Patrick Francis Sheehan, OSA, fondly remembered as Bishop Namu.

Four decades after that defining moment, the anniversary stands as a significant occasion of thanksgiving, celebrating the enduring grace of God at work in the life of a priest who has continued to serve the Church through the ministry entrusted to him.

Four Decades of Grace and Priestly Commitment

The priesthood is a vocation rooted in the call of Christ to serve, shepherd the faithful, proclaim the Word of God and administer the sacraments. It is a journey that requires faithfulness, humility, perseverance and an enduring willingness to place the needs of God’s people at the heart of pastoral ministry.

A 40th Priestly Ordination Anniversary, therefore, represents more than the passage of time. It is an occasion to acknowledge the grace that sustains a vocation through changing seasons of life and ministry, as well as the responsibilities that accompany service in the Church.

For Archbishop Ndagoso, the celebration marks 40 years since he answered the call to the Sacred Priesthood. It invites the faithful to join in thanksgiving for the gift of his vocation and to pray that the same Lord who called him will continue to strengthen him in the responsibilities of his ministry.

The anniversary also provides an opportunity to remember the many ways in which priestly ministry serves the life of the Church: through the celebration of the Eucharist, the proclamation of the Gospel, pastoral accompaniment, spiritual guidance and the formation of the faithful in Christian life.

A Ministry Rooted in the Service of God’s People

The Catholic Church understands the priesthood as a sacred vocation through which ordained ministers participate in the mission of Christ, the Eternal High Priest. Priests are called to make Christ present among His people through the ministry of the Word, the celebration of the sacraments and the pastoral care of the faithful.

This vocation calls for a life of prayer, fidelity to the teachings of the Church, compassion towards those in need and dedication to the spiritual growth of the Christian community.

As Archbishop Ndagoso celebrates four decades of priestly life, the milestone recalls the enduring importance of this sacred ministry and the need to support those who have dedicated their lives to the service of God and His people.

The anniversary is also a reminder that every vocation is sustained by divine grace and strengthened through the prayers and support of the faithful. The journey of priestly service calls for continual renewal, especially as the Church responds to the spiritual and pastoral needs of the people entrusted to her care.

A Moment of Thanksgiving for the Church

The Catholic Diocese of Osogbo’s congratulatory message expresses joy and gratitude as Archbishop Ndagoso reaches this significant milestone. Such celebrations hold a special place in the life of the Church because they direct attention to God, the source of every vocation and the one who sustains His servants in their mission.

The anniversary is an invitation to the faithful to give thanks for the gift of the priesthood and to pray for all priests, bishops and religious who continue to dedicate themselves to the service of the Gospel.

It is also an occasion to encourage young people who may be discerning a vocation to the priesthood or consecrated life to remain open to God’s call, trusting that He provides the grace required to fulfil the mission He entrusts to His servants.

The faithful are encouraged to remember Archbishop Ndagoso in their prayers, asking the Lord to grant him continued strength, wisdom, good spiritual health and renewed zeal for the mission of the Church.

Prayers for Continued Fruitfulness in Ministry

As Archbishop Ndagoso celebrates 40 years of priestly ordination, the prayer of the Church is that his ministry will continue to bear abundant fruit for the glory of God and the good of His people.

May the Lord, who called him to the Sacred Priesthood, sustain him with His grace, deepen his love for the Gospel and strengthen his commitment to the pastoral responsibilities entrusted to him. May the Holy Spirit continue to guide him in wisdom, courage and discernment as he serves the Church.

May the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Priests, intercede for him, accompany him in his ministry and help him remain steadfast in his dedication to Christ and His Church.

As he marks this anniversary, we join the Catholic Diocese of Osogbo in celebrating this milestone and offering prayers of thanksgiving for four decades of priestly service.

Ad multos annos, Your Grace!

May the Lord continue to bless Archbishop Matthew Man-Oso Ndagoso with renewed strength, enduring joy in ministry and many more fruitful years in His vineyard.
