The St. Martin de Porres Commandery of the Knights of St. John International (KSJI) has organised its Cadets and Juniors Holiday Programme at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Cathedral, Katsina, with a strong emphasis on faith formation, leadership development, discipline, and character building among young members of the Order.
The programme commenced at about 10:00 a.m. with the Holy Rosary, led by Junior Emmanuella Uba, setting the tone for a day of prayer, learning, interaction, and formation.
Young Members Learn the History of KSJI
As part of the programme, the Cadets and Juniors were taken through the history of KSJI in Katsina, providing them with an opportunity to understand the origins, mission, values, and contributions of the Order within the Catholic Church.
The session culminated in an engaging quiz anchored by Sir Joseph Offiong, allowing the young participants to test their knowledge while encouraging active participation and healthy competition.

“The Future Light of KSJI”
A major highlight of the programme was a presentation titled “Cadets and Juniors: The Future Light of KSJI,” delivered by the Worthy President of the Commandery, Sir Stephen Aluko.
In his presentation, Sir Aluko encouraged the young members to recognise themselves as future leaders of both the Order and the Church. He emphasised the importance of discipline, commitment, service, responsibility, and Christian values as essential qualities for effective leadership.
He urged the Cadets and Juniors to take their formation seriously and to begin developing the character and sense of service expected of future members and leaders of KSJI.
Participants Sensitised on the Dangers of Drug Abuse
The programme also featured a presentation on Drug Abuse, delivered by Sister Mary Uba.
The session sensitised the young participants on the dangers and consequences associated with substance abuse, while encouraging them to make responsible choices and avoid influences that could negatively affect their lives, education, relationships, and future.
Drills, Bible Sword and Interactive Sessions
Other activities during the programme included short drills, quizzes, Bible Sword, and a Questions and Answers session.
These activities provided the Cadets and Juniors with opportunities to learn in an engaging environment, demonstrate their knowledge, interact with one another, and develop teamwork and confidence.
The programme was also attended by Brothers and Sisters of the Order, whose presence provided encouragement, guidance, and mentorship to the younger members.

Commitment to Youth Formation
The Cadets and Juniors Holiday Programme reaffirmed the commitment of the St. Martin de Porres Commandery to the holistic formation of its younger members.
Through programmes that combine prayer, education, discipline, leadership training, and mentorship, the Commandery continues to nurture young people who can grow into disciplined, knowledgeable, faith filled, and effective leaders capable of contributing meaningfully to the growth of KSJI and the mission of the Catholic Church.
