The Director of the Justice, Development and Peace Initiative (JDPI), Catholic Diocese of Katsina, has paid an official learning and understudy visit to the Justice, Development and Peace Caritas Commission (JDPC), Catholic Archdiocese of Jos, as part of efforts to strengthen administrative capacity, improve operational efficiency, and enhance the delivery of social development programmes within the Diocese.
The visit was undertaken as a strategic learning mission aimed at gaining practical insights into the operational structures and systems of JDPC Jos. With its long standing experience in community mobilisation, human rights advocacy, peacebuilding, and social intervention, JDPC Jos provided a valuable platform for learning and exchange of institutional best practices.
Focus on Organisational Structure and Governance
During the visit, the Director participated in structured discussions and interactive working sessions covering key areas considered essential to effective institutional management.
One of the major areas of focus was organisational structure and governance. Discussions examined operational hierarchies, thematic programme management, and staff coordination, with emphasis on developing structures that promote effective communication and smooth collaboration across departments.
Strengthening Administrative Systems
The engagement also focused on administrative systems and office management.
Particular attention was given to office management procedures, reporting channels, internal communication, documentation, and control mechanisms that support the effective day to day functioning of a faith based development organisation.
The exchange provided an opportunity to examine how established administrative processes can contribute to accountability, efficiency, and effective programme coordination.

Financial Management and Accountability
Another significant area of the study visit was financial management and accountability.
The discussions provided insights into financial planning, grant management and tracking, donor reporting requirements, compliance procedures, and auditing practices.
These systems are essential for promoting transparency, strengthening donor confidence, ensuring proper stewardship of resources, and supporting the long term sustainability of development programmes.
Programme Implementation and Community Engagement
The Director also gained insights into general operations and programme delivery, including field implementation, project monitoring, community mobilisation, and outreach strategies.
The sessions provided an opportunity to examine practical approaches used in delivering humanitarian, social justice, and community development interventions while ensuring that programmes remain responsive to the needs of target communities.
Insights to Strengthen JDPI Katsina
Reflecting on the outcome of the visit, the participants noted that the knowledge and insights gained would contribute significantly to ongoing efforts to strengthen JDPI Katsina.
The experience is expected to assist the Diocese in identifying adaptable strategies and systems that can improve institutional coordination, programme implementation, financial accountability, and community engagement.
Rather than simply replicating existing structures, the learning experience will provide a basis for contextualising relevant operational models to suit the pastoral, socio economic, and humanitarian realities of communities served by JDPI Katsina.

Strengthening Collaboration for Human Development
The leadership of JDPC Jos welcomed the visit and expressed appreciation for the collaborative spirit demonstrated by the Diocese of Katsina.
The engagement further highlighted the shared commitment of both diocesan development bodies to the promotion of human dignity, justice, peace, sustainable development, and holistic human development.
The understudy visit represents an important step towards strengthening institutional learning and collaboration within the Catholic Church's justice, development, and peace structures, while providing JDPI Katsina with valuable perspectives for improving its operations and impact among the communities it serves.
