Youth: The Future and Present of the Church

Youth: The Future and Present of the Church

Fri Aug 29 2025

The Church is alive and vibrant when her young people are engaged, encouraged, and empowered. Often, we speak of youth as the “future of the Church,” but the truth is that they are also the Church’s present. Their energy, joy, and openness to the Spirit breathe new life into our parishes and communities. The diocesan community has a responsibility to walk alongside young people, listening to their voices, guiding them in faith, and helping them discover their vocation in life. Through catechesis, service opportunities, retreats, and fellowship, we can provide spaces where youth not only learn about Christ but also encounter Him personally. Our young people face many challenges—pressures from society, confusion about values, and the lure of technology that sometimes distracts from faith. Yet they also carry immense potential. When mentored with love and guided by authentic faith, they become strong witnesses, ready to serve the Church and the world. As Pope Francis reminds us in Christus Vivit, “The Church needs your momentum, your intuitions, your faith. We need them!” Let us, as a diocese, commit to supporting our young people, celebrating their gifts, and entrusting them with responsibility in parish life. In doing so, we not only strengthen the Church of tomorrow but also enrich the Church of today.
